Winter reading challenge encourages you to “Be a Reading Machine”
Spokane, WA | December 17, 2024 – Spokane County Library District (SCLD) invites everyone in Spokane County to participate in the Winter Reading Challenge: Be a Reading Machine. Registration is open now, and the challenge begins January 1 and continues through January 31.
Readers can discover compelling stories, new information, and a gratifying sense of accomplishment. Each person is challenged to read a total of 300 minutes (or more) during the month. All reading counts toward the total—reading with a child or pet, listening to audiobooks, reading magazines or graphic novels—so readers can read what they love!
With just 20 minutes each day, readers can power up and claim victory for this challenge using Beanstack (website and/or app). Each 30 minutes of reading earns a badge, and additional activities that reflect on the reading journey and goals earn even more badges.
One way to stay motivated with reading is to play Beanstack’s virtual bingo with each badge earned. Get bingo in different directions—vertically, horizontally, and diagonally—or aim for the ultimate bingo by gathering all badges and completing the whole card!
The whole family can be added to Beanstack with one login—making for easy access and tracking. And an advantage of the Beanstack mobile app is that it makes tracking easy with a built-in timer, activated with just a tap.
Based on each person’s reading interests, Beanstack can provide book suggestions to help readers discover new titles and authors in the library’s collection.
SCLD encourages readers of all ages to challenge themselves to become reading machines this winter. Learn more, including special hashtags to share on social media, at scld.org/winter-reading-2025.
