Online author talks explore Native American culture, childhood migration


Spokane, WA | October 31, 2024Following the author visits of Debra Magpie Earling last week for the annual Spokane Is Reading community-wide read, Spokane County Library District invites everyone to experience author talks with three authors in four online presentations for the SCLD Online Authors Series in November.

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, two authors explore their Native American cultures and worldviews, shared in their latest books.

Stanley Milford, Jr., former law enforcement officer and Navajo investigator and author of The Paranormal Ranger, chats about the chilling and clear-eyed memoir of his investigations into bizarre cases of the paranormal and the unexplained in Navajo land.

Mona Susan Power chats about her latest novel A Council of Dolls and delves into her exploration of Native Rights and Native American culture, in particular using an important symbol that anchors comfort and companionship in Native life: dolls.

Javier Zamora discusses his memoir Solito and the riveting tale of his migration to the U.S. in two author talks, one presented in Spanish and the other in English. Zamora shares the intimate tale of perseverance and survival of the treacherous and near-impossible journey he experienced at age 9. Discover how the two-week trip over three-thousand miles from his small town in El Salvador, through Guatemala and Mexico, and across the U.S. border turned into a perilous two months.
