Magical, smart, competitively fun library programs for adults, teens, kids, families in January

Spokane, WA | December 19, 2024 – Spokane County Library District (SCLD) announces January library events and programs for a variety of interests for adults, teens, and kids and families—crafts, activities, informative sessions, creative fun, and more.
For Adults
During World Cooking: Filipino Food, Chefs Jackie and Vee of the Filipino American Northwest Association demonstrate the preparation of a traditional Filipino dish in an online presentation while participants follow along in their home kitchens.
Small business owners and entrepreneurs can discover how to set goals and stay on track during the online SCORE Spokane workshop Setting SMART Goals for Your Small Business.
Learn the essentials for Podcast Publishing at home and with the audio-visual recording capabilities at The STCU Studio. Explore the basics of using a smart cutting machine during Cricut Training for teens and adults at The Lab.
January online talks from the SCLD Online Authors Series bring you two New York Times best-selling authors and a literary agent:
• TJ Klune, author of The House in the Cerulean Sea and Somewhere Beyond the Sea
• Amanda Montell, author of The Age of Magical Overthinking and host of the podcast Sounds Like a Cult
• Seth Fishman shares an inside look at working with a literary agent
Those who enjoy jigsaw puzzles can help their local library win the National Puzzle Day Competition: Library vs Library. Other programs for adults include gardening classes, genealogy help, dementia and memory loss programs, and Medicare information sessions.
For Teens
Explore your creativity during Cricut Training (for teens and adults) to learn how to make things using a cutting machine and during the Digital Short-Video Workshop where you learn to create short videos and upload them on digital platforms.
For Kids & Families
Celebrate the new year in Hogwarts style, during Magic for Muggles: Crafts & Activities. Explore crafts and activities, including charms, care of magical creatures, quidditch practice, and more.
During Juegos tradicionales / Traditional Games in Spanish, kids in grades K–3 and their families play games such as Huevo podrido (similar to “Duck, Duck, Goose”), A la víbora de la mar (similar to “London Bridge is Falling Down”), and Jugemos en el bosque mientras el lobo no está (similar to “Hide and Seek”).
Check out the lineup of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) events for kids at our libraries. Each week, our youngest library visitors can enjoy Play & Learn Storytime tailored to babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and families.
Spokane County Library District provides resources, experiences, and places that empower people to learn, explore, and succeed.
