Library Giving Day donations to provide Summer Reading books to kids, teens
Spokane, WA | March 24, 2026 – The Library Foundation of Spokane County is accepting donations from the community during the annual Library Giving Day this April. This year’s campaign is raising funds to give a book to every kid and teen, ages 0–17, who registers for Spokane County Library District’s Summer Reading program.
Library Giving Day is Wednesday, April 1, with donations accepted during the entire month of April.
For the third year, the Library Foundation is supporting Summer Reading with a goal of raising $5,000. All donations to Library Giving Day go directly to the costs of providing Summer Reading books.
All youth who register for Summer Reading can receive a new book at the start of summer, or any time during the Summer Reading program, by visiting an SCLD library.
During the past two years, SCLD observed that offering these books resulted in a 76% increase in registrations and encouraged families to visit the library and continue reading throughout summer.
“The impact of donations for Library Giving Day has been an incredible boost to Summer Reading and children’s literacy,” said Patrick Roewe, SCLD Executive Director. “SCLD can only offer these books with the help of the Library Foundation and Library Giving Day donations. We appreciate the community support in keeping kids reading through the summer.”
Donations to Library Giving Day can be made at givebutter.com/LGD26.
