Free January workshops, events, activities at libraries for a variety of interests


Spokane, WA | January 6, 2026 – Spokane County Library District (SCLD) announces a variety of online and in-person events, workshops, and activities covering a variety of interests for adults, teens, kids and families, as well as early learners, during the month of January.

                                                                                    ADULTS

Creative workshops offer both hands-on and technology-aided options, including, 3D Printing: Sticky Note Stencils, Cricut Training, Podcast Publishing at The STCU Studio, and Introduction to Creating Watercolor Landscapes with artist Megan Perkins.

During Plateau Basket Weaving, artist Julie Edwards, of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, shares techniques for the twining basketry skill used by Native American communities in the Colombia Plateau region.
The SCLD Online Authors Series features live author talks in January with David Brooks, op-ed columnist and bestselling author, Julia Hotz, journalist and award-winning author, and Liz Moore, bestselling author.

Food and cooking are the focus in these delicious and enlightening programs: Cozy Reads & Bakery Treats, World Cooking: Korean Food, and Lost Apples of the Palouse.

Discover useful insights about caregiving for those experiencing dementia, Alzheimer’s, and memory loss, including Memory Cafés. Medicare sessions offer help with the basics and one-on-one help for anyone looking for the best options for their health care needs.

During Homebuyer Education Seminar, SNAP Spokane educators explore all of the major aspects of the home-buying process in an unbiased format. Financial educators from BECU share sound strategies for ways to handle and keep an eye on your finances in two sessions: Manage Your Money: A Practical Guide to Handling Finances and Fraud Detection & Prevention.

Anyone on the hunt for a job or thinking of switching careers can get assistance from expert career coaches during WorkSource Drop-In Help at Spokane Valley Library.

The SCORE Spokane online workshop Setting SMART Goals for Your Small Business is led by a business coach who shares business strategies for success with a plan to achieve business goals.

                                                                                    TEENS

Gather friends or venture solo to the library for a one-shot adventure or an ongoing campaign with tabletop role-playing games at Teen RPG Club: Arcane Adventures (ages 13–17). Try new activities, such as programming your own video game, making art from upcycled materials, and more, during Teen STEAM: Ignite Your Imagination (ages 13–17).

Sign up for Cricut Training (teens and adults) to explore the basics of using a Cricut smart cutting machine. Turn plain sticky notes into neatly lined templates for checklists or task lists during 3D Printing: Sticky Note Stencils for teens and adults.

                                                                               KIDS & FAMILY

Try a tasty online session called Kids in the Kitchen: Healthy, Tasty Treats (kids ages 8+ and their adults). The chef demonstrates the easy preparation of a family-friendly dish in this online presentation while kids with their grownups follow along at home.

In January, families can sign up for Sala de escape en español / Escape Room in Spanish at Cheney Library.
Have a custom adventure at the library at Choose Your Own Adventure: Crafts & Activities, where we ask a few questions and the answers decide the crafts and activities at each step.

Stop by our libraries to Design Glow-in-the-Dark Art and Create Tin Foil Art. Plus, try new activities at these weekly and monthly STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs.

                                                                            EARLY LEARNERS
