Food drive donations accepted in April at all public libraries in Spokane County

Spokane, WA | March 31, 2026 – Spokane County Library District (SCLD) is participating in the annual spring food drive Bites and Books – Turning the Page on Hunger. Partners for the food drive include Spokane Public Library (SPL), Liberty Lake Municipal Library, Second Harvest, Aequus Sports, and NonStop Local KHQ. Together, these libraries and organizations are promoting and participating in this county-wide food drive in April.

Every public library in Spokane County is collecting nonperishable food, such as canned or boxed food that doesn’t need to be refrigerated until it is opened. Donations of peanut butter and cereal are always appreciated. As food donations are collected, Second Harvest and other food banks will distribute food to communities in the county.

All who are able to donate nonperishable food are encouraged to bring donations to their local library. Donations will also be accepted at the Spokane Zephyr FC soccer match at One Spokane Stadium on April 26. The USDA defines food insecurity as “limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods, or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.” Feeding America estimates that “48 million people—1 in 7—are food insecure in the US.” In Spokane County in 2024, 13% of our population and 19% of our children are food insecure.

In past years, residents throughout the greater Spokane area have been generous during food drives and have shown that they value community and helping to end food insecurity.
