Call for submissions: Expo’74 exhibit, video recording of World’s Fair stories at libraries

Spokane, WA | April 3, 2024In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Expo ’74, Spokane County Library District (SCLD) invites the public to drop off memorabilia and photos from the Spokane World’s Fair at any of its library locations for an Expo ’74 exhibit being held at libraries in July.

Items for the exhibit are being collected at all SCLD libraries April 1–May 10. Those who wish to include digital memories can submit images online at www.scld.org/expo-74.

For those who have Expo ’74 stories and memories to share, SCLD would like to video record and share them online. Simply stop by any SCLD library April 1–May 10 to fill out the Expo ’74 submission form or fill out the online submission form at www.scld.org/expo-74.

During the month of July, everyone can enjoy a showcase of Spokane World’s Fair items exhibited at all but two SCLD libraries. Items dropped off at Spokane Valley and Argonne Libraries (neither of which have display cases) will be viewable in an online exhibit and distributed to in-person exhibits at other libraries. All physical items submitted to the exhibit will be available for pick up in August.

SCLD has also partnered with the League of Women Voters to provide opportunities for civic discussion about the focus of Expo ’74—environmental awareness. During this program, discuss how individuals, neighborhoods, and municipalities can take action to prepare for the impacts of the climate crisis. Attendees can share their concerns, ask questions, and exchange ideas with others.
