Parenting for Caregivers Raising Children of Color
Raising BIPOC children in the U.S. is complicated. Children of color experience specific stresses and pressures. This workshop is for caregivers who long to give their child a strong sense of cultural identity in the midst of those pressures. It is also for parents who want to step away from parenting practices that were developed in response to trauma or unjust systems. Latina educator and child advocate from River of Colors, Maria Pia Johnson Barreto offers a starting conversation on parenting for cultural revitalization and healing. She explores strategies for setting boundaries without violence and for engaging in challenging conversations with children on topics such as race and racism. Adults
