One Book, One Coast is a West Coast shared community reading program with over 140 libraries participating in Washington, Oregon, and California. You’re invited to read the graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy and view the live, online author talk with author, actor, activist George Takei. They Called Us Enemy recounts George’s childhood imprisonment within two American incarceration camps during World War II. George Takei is best known for his portrayal of Mr. Sulu in the acclaimed television and film series Star Trek.
You can place a hold and borrow a physical copy of They Called Us Enemy while visiting an SCLD library or on our catalog at scld.org. In-district SCLD customers can also borrow the eBook of They Called Us Enemy, in English and Spanish, on the Libby app by OverDrive with unlimited access. This means you can borrow this digital version without waiting.
