Accessible, Accommodating, and Inclusive Carrousel Event
The Accessible, Accommodating, and Inclusive Carrousel Event is an annual community celebration hosted by the Rosalie Murrey Memorial Foundation that opens the historic Looff Carrousel to children and families of all abilities. The event creates a sensory-friendly, welcoming space where children with disabilities, their siblings, and their families can ride, play, and connect alongside their neighbors without barriers.
This event exists because every child belongs at the heart of community life. By centering accessibility and inclusion from the first ride to the last, the Carrousel Event reflects the truth that disability is part of the full human experience and that joyful, public spaces should be designed for every body and every family.
Families can expect adapted seating support, sensory considerations such as adjusted sound and lighting, accessible activities, and connection with disability advocates, service providers, and community partners gathered in one place. The event is family centered, intergenerational, and welcoming to first-time visitors as well as returning families.
The Accessible, Accommodating, and Inclusive Carrousel Event honors the legacy of Rosalie "Birdie" Murrey and reflects RMMF's mission to build inclusive early childhood and community systems across the Spokane region.
This event is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, and helps RMMF prepare adequate sensory supports, seating accommodations, and volunteer coverage. Free and open to the public, no registration required. If you'd like to pre-register, you can do so here.
