Over 20 festive, helpful, creative library events, workshops in December

Spokane, WA | November 20, 2025 – Spokane County Library District (SCLD) announces the December lineup of library events and programs, filled with holiday joy, crafts, activities, games, and more for all ages, adults, teens, kids and families, as well as early learners.

For All Ages

Celebrate the holiday season with the community! Tree lighting, stories, crafts, and more are offered for everyone to enjoy during Holiday Hoopla at Cheney Library and Spokane Valley Celebration of Lights.

For Adults

SCLD’s online programs in December include a cooking class and an author talk. While at home, explore World Cooking: Ethiopian Food with Chef Hibra Tsegay of Amen Ethiopian Café. All registrants receive the list of ingredients so they can prepare ahead to cook along with the chef. During her online author talk, Sue Hincenbergs discusses scheming wives and high-stakes hilarity in her novel The Retirement Plan, in which murder is the name of the game.

During Cozy Reads & Bakery Treats, sample holiday treats and get suggestions for books and movies that pair well with them. Avid family history explorers and anyone curious about their family’s past can come to the library for a Genealogy Drop-In Session. Explore how you can ramp up your creativity with the library’s technology during Choosing the Right Tool: 3D Printing, Laser Cutting & More.

Other popular programs for adults include Memory Café where people can connect with those experiencing memory loss and their caregivers, WorkSource Drop-In Help for job seekers, Medicare sessions for open enrollment and getting started, and Maker Open Hours in The Lab for anyone looking to learn more about and use the library’s technology.

For Teens

Gather friends or venture solo to the library for a one-shot adventure or an ongoing campaign with tabletop role-playing games, such as Dungeons & Dragons. From newbies to dragonslayers, all experience levels are welcome at Teen RPG Club: Arcane Adventures.

For Kids & Families

How do others play and have fun around the world? Drop in for Games & Crafts from Around the World to discover what other kids do across the globe. Kids can Make Winter Ornaments with a tea light for a bit of winter cheer.
Get ready for a custom adventure during Choose Your Own Adventure: Crafts & Activities. Experience a unique program filled with fun challenges and crafts.

During Decoración de piñatas para familias (Piñata Decorating for Families), Spanish-speaking families can discover the origins of the piñata and work together to decorate a piñata for upcoming gatherings. This program is presented entirely in Spanish.

Stop into the library for an Engineering Challenge and other weekly and monthly STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs.

For Early Learners
Young children and their caregivers can enjoy stories and activities to build early literacy skills at our weekly Play & Learn Storytime programs. Check out Picture Book Chat to see some of the best new books to read with early learners.
